About

Todd Shaffer
Welcome to Easel Jockey, a blog dedicated to the fine craftsmanship of painting and illustration.  I have been greatly influenced by the Brandywine tradition of painting and Russian Impressionism.  The Brandywine tradition refers to the principles of art taught by Howard Pyle and handed down by generations of students, most directly through Harvey Dunn and Andrew Loomis.  Here you will find artistic instruction, book reviews and news related to fine art craftsmanship.

Personally,  For the past 17 years I have been working professionally as an artist, animator and director in Hollywood and Montreal.  I have studied art at Art Center College of Design and numerous professional workshops across the United States.  Some of my instructors have been Steve Huston, Ovanes Berberian, Scott Christensen, John Ebersberger, and Glenn Vilppu.  I currently live in Montreal.
